Sunday, July 11th, 2010

tarin tickets usaThese can be realized due to the extensive Amtrak networks throughout America which allow savings in operating costs. They have restructured their operations over the years after initial financial difficulties and are now passing on the savings to travelers.

There are also other benefits to traveling with Amtrak trains. Train travel can be a nightmare on poorly maintained coaches. However, that does not exist with Amtrak trains. They offer good efficiency and the rides are quite relaxing for a trip within the country. Furthermore, one gets to enjoy the scenic views that pass by while resting in the comfortable cabins.

The extensive and high quality services provide a bargain relative to the low prices being offered for their tickets. There are also regular discounts being offered by Amtrak on the tickets. There are also the essential rail passes that most train services have. Amtrak rail passes will include the usual discounts as a result of bulk upfront purchase of their travel tickets in one complete pass. These provide great savings for regular users of their train networks.

Amtrak packaged vacations are a great deal for anyone looking to have a local holiday within the country. Apart from the discounted tickets, the packages include hotel accommodations at the final destination at reduced prices. The ease and convenience when acquiring one of the packages for a holiday can substantially reduce the hassle when planning a trip.

Finally, having a trip by rail can be less dangerous and extremely comfortable compared to driving through long hours between cities in the United States. Potential road accidents can also be avoided, especially during the harsher winter seasons. All you do is put your feet up in the train seat and watch the world pass you by, while you reap the benefits of traveling on an Amtrak vacation package.

How to Save Money on Amtrak

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

First of all just like most means of travel be sure that you book as early as possible. If you book two weeks or more in advance, typically you get a cheaper rate. Alternatively if you get non-refundable tickets, these are normally a bit cheaper as well. Of course there is risk here, but if you are sure you are going on the trip, it’s an option to consider.

Check on multiple days to leave and come back. At times by leaving on a different day or coming back on a different day you can get much different prices. When planning a trip consider different dates for your trip to see if you can get a better rate.

With Amtrak it’s typical to find online discount codes that can help you get your tickets cheaper. Before booking your ride be sure to check for discount codes.

Get an Amtrak savings card. These are typically a one time fee that will give you a discount on all rides for a whole year. Generally speaking this pays for itself on the first trip that you take.

At times planning a longer distance trip is cheaper. Don’t only look for tickets to the destination you are going to but look at tickets for rides that go behind your destination. At times the longer trips are cheaper. Simply get off the train at your preferred destination and don’t travel the whole way.

Be sure to bring your own food on your trip. The food on the train will be very expensive compared to just packing things on your own.

Cheap Train Fares That You Must Not Miss

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Cheap train fares were once difficult to obtain but it is not so anymore. There are several reasons why people choose to travel by way of train:

It is comfortable because you are able to walk around and stretch your leg. You can also make new friends.

It is a very fast mode of travelling. With train travel you get to avoid long traffic and long security lines at airports.

Travelling by train is quite exploratory. You get to enjoy the scenery from suburbs to cities, from forests to lakes and mountains to valleys.

It is often cheaper to commute by train than buying fuel to drive long distances or purchasing airplane tickets.

Trains pollutes to a lesser extent than aircrafts as they discharge less carbon dioxide in the air.

Different countries have various agents and ways to obtain inexpensive fares:

1.Europe – commonly known as the home of inexpensive train travel. Europe has many rail passes to various countries in the continent. It is mostly accessible to travelers outside of Europe. If you plan a broad trip of Europe, you may choose to purchase a Eurail which is a first class pass valid for one or several weeks which is quite cheap. If you just want to visit parts of the continent, the inexpensive selection is Scanrail or the Balkan Flexipass.

2.USA – Amtrak US rail passes are reasonable, and are accessible in 15 or 8 days choices. Children get price passes. Tickets are sold for segmented travel, which means that it can take 2 or 3 sections supplied by Amtrak to travel one city to another. Tickets are sold on the internet at their website and overseas commuters and students are offered weekly specials and other hot deals.

3.India – rail travel is dirt cheap in India. Travel by rail is your best choice as long as you can tolerate crowds. Many persons commute by train in India and the railway industry has been upgrading.

4.Australia – Austrail Flexipass is ideal for long term exploring. This pass is appropriate for travel over 15 or 22 days and is very inexpensive. Anytime you commute, those days are subtracted from the pass. The only shortcoming is that children pay the same as grown-ups.

TIPS TO OBTAIN REASONABLE TRAIN FARES:

Travel during off-peak periods when trains provide inexpensive tickets. During rush hours there is more demand for tickets so they are more costly at these times. Mid-week is an ideal time to book your ticket.

Make your reservations as early as possible to take advantage of cheap tickets. The earlier you book, the cheaper the fare.

Check for holidays in your destinations as this tend to hike train ticket costs.

If you are travelling to Europe, browse online for tickets at Rail Europe. If you are commuting in groups the tickets are less expensive.

You can split the tickets in one journey and this often works out less expensive than to buy one ticket. This is really buying three or four tickets instead of one ticket.

Think about using a travel representative. They can often hunt own the best specials, saving you time and effort. STA Travel is a travel agent which also operates online offering discounted fares specially to students.

Search on the internet for ‘reasonable train fares’. You will be surprised of how much specials can be found on the internet. Online brokers are created to find the lowest prices available. Some of the most common websites that offer these services are Amtrak.com, Virgintrains.co.uk, Thetrainline.com and Eurorail. The most suitable one would depend on the destination and where you are travelling from.

Amtrak Auto Train – Seats and Sleepers

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Anyone who would prefer to take their car, small van, or motorcycle with them on vacation (but not necessarily drive the entire distance) would enjoy traveling with Amtrak’s Auto Train. This is a unique service available in the United States for those who like to travel along the east coast. Amtrak, the Federally chartered corporation in the United States that runs interstate passenger trains now operates the Auto Train, which was originally a private business.

There are some things to consider when traveling on the Auto Train. Keeping these in mind and planning accordingly will make your trip more enjoyable.

When picking up your ticket and on the day that you depart from the station, please have photo identification on your person. Since Auto Train tickets must be in hand prior to boarding, make sure to pick up your tickets in advance. To that end, arrive early to allow time for any unexpected challenges.

If you are traveling from or through Washington, DC or Orlando, Florida, plan for plenty of travel time since traffic can be especially heavy in these areas.

Auto Train will begin loading vehicles (yours) in Lorton, at 11:30 a.m. on the day of your departure. If you are driving an oversized vehicle or a motorcycle, these must arrive on location no later than 2 p.m. Cars must arrive no later than 3 p.m. We regret to say, there will be no exceptions to these guidelines.

Automobiles, vans, SUV’s and motorcycles are the only vehicles permitted on the Auto Train. A car should be no higher than 65 inches high and have at least 4 inches of ground clearance. A van or SUV can be up to 66 and 88 inches in height with 4 inches of ground clearance. Nothing can be attached to the roof of the vehicle. However, bicycles in bicycle racks can be attached to the rear of the vehicle. Motorcycles can be up to 57.5 inches in height (including the windshield) and needs to have 5 inches of ground clearance. Only standard factory-model two-wheel motorcycles with no sidecars please.

You will not have access to your vehicle during the trip. Please remove all needed items from your vehicle prior to checking it in to be loaded. Please do not leave valuables in your vehicle. Vehicle alarm systems must be deactivated. If your alarm would go off during the journey, you might have a dead battery upon arrival. You may pack luggage inside your vehicle. Amtrak does allow two carry-on bags per passenger, so bring with you what you’ll need for the trip.

Trains sway and jiggle while in motion, so use the provided handrails when moving about the train and wear shoes at all times.

If you are traveling in a sleeping car, your bedding and towels are provided for you, but considering bringing your own pillow to make your trip more comfortable. The beds in the sleeping cars conveniently convert to seats for travel during the day.

You may bring your own snacks even though your meals are included in your fare. The rooms have limited space, so only bring essential items with you.

There is a lot to see on the train! Ask a member of your crew for recommendations on what to see while you travel. Above all, enjoy your trip!
